About

Counterpoint Architecture was established in 2017 in Townsville, North Queensland. We’re locals through and through and we care deeply about the future of our region.

The studio began when two like-minded practices, Outcrop Architecture and 9point9 Architects, came together with a shared vision. Both had strong reputations across North Queensland and brought years of experience to the table. Counterpoint is led by co-directors Mark Kennedy and Zammi Rohan, both well-regarded architects who have lived and worked in the North for many years.

We’re known for being approachable, grounded and easy to work with. We take pride in delivering quality design that responds to climate, lifestyle and context. Whether it’s a family home, a school or a public building, we stay closely involved from the very first conversation right through to completion.

We believe architecture should do more than solve problems. It should connect people to place and contribute to something bigger. At Counterpoint, we’re in it for the long haul. We’re here to create spaces that make a lasting difference and help shape a strong future for Queensland, especially in regional communities.

In 2022 we opened a second studio in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, broadening our footprint and allowing us to bring our hands-on approach to projects across the southern parts of the state.
